Thanks BNP for denying my nomination
Independent lawmaker Rumin Farhana on Tuesday expressed gratitude to her party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, for not giving her a nomination in the last election.
Speaking in the Jatiya Sangsad, the MP from Brahmanbaria-2 said the decision helped her realise the extent of public support she enjoys across the country.
“Had I contested within the party framework, I would not have understood how many people-from Teknaf to Tetulia-stood by me with love, prayers and support,” she said.
Farhana also thanked her supporters, particularly party activists who backed her despite facing exclusion and intimidation.
“Many were deprived, even expelled from the party, yet they did not abandon me. I am grateful to all of them,” she added.
During her speech, she paid tribute to former prime minister Khaleda Zia, recalling that it was under her guidance that she entered politics. She said Zia’s absence in parliament remains deeply felt.
Farhana had contested the last national election as an independent candidate after failing to secure BNP nomination. She was later expelled from the party for defying its decision and participating in the polls.
