Aparna disappointed with changing audience taste, hints at retirement

Renowned filmmaker and actress Aparna Sen has expressed concern over the current state of cinema, hinting at stepping away from direction due to shifting audience preferences.

In a recent interview on show ‘Straight Up with Shree’, she said the dominance of television serials is influencing viewers’ taste, leaving little space for meaningful cinema.

“Who will I make films for? Where is my audience?” she questioned, adding that the changing landscape has affected her motivation to create new work.

She also criticised OTT platforms for prioritising light entertainment over thought-provoking content and she has hinted at stepping back from directing.
