Road crashes claim 619 lives in March
As many as 619 people have been killed and 1,548 others injured in 616 road accidents across the country in March this year, according to the Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS), a passenger welfare body.
Only motorcycle accidents claimed 237 lives, which is around 38.61 per cent of the total fatalities, a BJKS press release, signed by its secretary general Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, said on Saturday.
The deceased include 157 drivers, 90 pedestrians, 78 women, 86 children, and nine law enforcement agency members, the report said.
Jatri Kalyan Samity said it prepared the report based on news published in national and regional dailies and online news portals, and broadcast on various electronic media.
