Ad agencies suffer from tax burden, requests NBR
The Advertising Agencies Association of Bangladesh (AAAB) has alleged that the tax burden on the country’s advertising industry has increased abnormally due to recent changes in the income tax law and rules. In this situation, the organization has written to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) demanding immediate amendment to the relevant rules.
The concern was expressed in a recent letter sent to the First Secretary (Taxation) of the NBR. This information was learned from NBR sources.
The letter said that amendments have been made to the ‘Tax at Source Rules, 2024’ through a notification issued on May 26, 2025.
The revised rules state that the higher of the prescribed tax on the commission received or the prescribed tax on the total bill will be applicable.
As a result, the organization claims that much more tax is being paid compared to the actual income.
