Pabna protest demanding death penalty of rape accuse

Pabna witnessed protests demanding the highest punishment for the accused in the rape and murder case of fourth-grade student Kamrunnahar Kali, as her relatives, classmates and local residents surrounded the district court and the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Sunday.

The protesters demanded that the investigation be completed and the charge sheet submitted within seven days, followed by a speedy trial.

On Sunday (September 20), hundreds of protesters, braving the rain, surrounded the Pabna District and Sessions Judge’s Court. They later marched to the DC office and staged a sit-in, chanting slogans demanding a fair and speedy trial and the highest punishment for those responsible for Kali’s death.

Those present included Kali’s father, Kamal Hossain, former local Union Parishad chairman Shamsul Alam and UP member Abdur Rauf Sohel, among others.

A brief rally was held there. Speakers said the brutal murder must not be allowed to become embroiled in lengthy legal proceedings. They demanded that the investigation be completed and the charge sheet submitted within the stipulated time, with a speedy trial ensured.
