Bangladesh, Kuwait reaffirm strong ties
Bangladesh and Kuwait have reiterated their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors, following a high-level meeting in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Kuwait’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ali Thunayun Abdulwahab Hamadah, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting underscored the longstanding friendship and growing strategic partnership between the two countries. During the discussion, the Ambassador conveyed Kuwait’s appreciation for Bangladesh’s initiative in facilitating a recent phone call between the foreign ministers of the two nations and for expressing early solidarity with Kuwait amid the ongoing conflict situation.
State Minister Shama Obaed reaffirmed Bangladesh’s consistent stance on non-interference and emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful diplomatic means.
She also expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti government for ensuring the safety and security of approximately 300,000 Bangladeshi expatriates living in the Gulf country.
Highlighting future opportunities, the State Minister stressed the need to enhance trade and investment cooperation, particularly in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, information and communication technology, and halal food.
She invited Kuwaiti investors to explore prospects in Bangladesh’s Special Economic Zones and Hi-Tech Parks.
Ambassador Hamadah acknowledged Bangladesh’s continued support for Kuwait in multilateral platforms, including the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
In response, the State Minister expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s support in addressing the Rohingya humanitarian crisis.
Bangladesh also conveyed its readiness to extend humanitarian assistance to Kuwait if required.
Both sides emphasized the importance of increasing high-level exchanges and holding regular meetings through existing bilateral mechanisms to identify new avenues for cooperation.
The Kuwaiti envoy reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh and its expatriate community, pledging continued cooperation to further strengthen the longstanding brotherly relations between the two nations.
