Bhola starts student nutrition feeding prog

A major student nutrition initiative began in Bhola, aiming to improve health and school attendance for children in 415 government primary schools.

The programme, benefiting 52,500 students, was launched on Sunday, simultaneously in the upazilas of Daulatkhan, Borhanuddin, Tajumuddin, and Monpura.

Alhaj Hafiz Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for Bhola-2 (covering Daulatkhan and Borhanuddin), inaugurated the programme as the chief guest, while the event was presided over by Upazila Executive Officer Monoranjan Barman.

Speakers at the event emphasised that the feeding programme would not only provide better nutritional support for students but also help improve school attendance and reduce dropout rates.

The government hopes the initiative will contribute to overall educational outcomes and support the healthy development of children in the region.
Funded by the Government of Bangladesh and implemented by Grameen Jan Unnayan Sangstha (GJUS), the programme will provide nutritious meals such as eggs, bananas, bread, and other healthy food items.
A total of 52,727 students will benefit: 106 schools in Daulatkhan, 156 in Borhanuddin, 110 in Tajumuddin, and 43 in Monpura.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Additional Director and Project Coordinator of GJUS, noted that the project would also benefit students in neighboring districts, including Patuakhali, Barguna, Pirojpur, Rajbari, and Gopalganj. According to him, the programme will continue for one year, covering 361,735 students across 2,673 institutions.
Zakir Hossain Mohin, Executive Director of GJUS, added that the school feeding programme aims to ensure proper nutrition, increase school attendance, and prevent dropouts-all essential for building a healthy and educated future for children in these districts.
The school feeding programme is expected to play a significant role in addressing nutritional gaps and supporting the academic success of students in Bhola and other coastal districts.
