The Eastern Railway Authority has formed a four-member probe committee to look into the fire incident that occured on the Dhaka-bound intercity ‘Chattola Express’ train in Sitakunda, Chattogram.

The committee was formed following the incident on Thursday (March 26). Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan said that the committee’s purpose is to determine the actual cause of the incident, reports BSS.

The Divisional Transport Officer (DTO) has been appointed as the head of the committee tasked with investigating the train fire incident. The committee has been instructed to submit a report promptly. Initially, it is suspected that the fire was caused by a mechanical fault, but the exact cause will be determined after a thorough investigation, and appropriate actions will be taken accordingly.

OnThursday (March 26) at around 6:45 am, a fire broke out in the power car of the train as it was moving in the BMA Gate area of Faujdarhat in Sitakunda. The fire then spread to an air-conditioned (AC) coach nearby, causing panic among the passengers who quickly evacuated the train and moved to safety. Upon receiving the alert, two units of the fire service arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the fire.
