Quick action for solving water logging taken
Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Nazrul Islam Manju inspected several crucial canals in the city and directed officials to take immediate and effective measures to resolve water logging on Wednesday.
As part of ongoing efforts to improve drainage system, ensure smooth water flow and enhance the city’s environment, the administrator visited key canals including Mistripara Canal, Suri Canal, Harintana Canal and Narikelbaria Canal.
During the inspection, he closely observed the current condition of the canals, including encroachment, dumped garbage obstacles to water flow, and the progress of ongoing canal digging works, reports BSS. Addressing the officials concerned, Manju stressed the need to intensify cleaning and re-excavation activities to mitigate public suffering and prevent water logging during the upcoming rainy season.
He also instructed them to maintain strict monitoring to ensure uninterrupted water flow in all canals.
“Khulna is an important coastal city. Keeping the canals functional is essential to ensure a sustainable drainage system. Through planned excavation and maintenance, we aim to provide a long-term solution to the city’s persistent water logging problem,” he said.
The administrator also emphasized taking necessary legal action against illegal encroachers along canal banks and raising public awareness to maintain cleanliness in canal areas.
Senior officials, engineers and representatives of relevant departments of Khulna City Corporation were present during the visit.
KCC sources said regular monitoring and development activities will continue to keep the city’s canals free from encroachment and pollution, ensuring an effective drainage system.
