‘Khushir Haat’ in Rajshahi brings Eid joy for just Tk5
Ahead of the holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, an online-based forum of women entrepreneurs, House of Beauty Bloom, has taken a unique initiative in Rajshahi to bring smiles to the faces of underprivileged people.
The event, titled “Eid Khushir Haat,” allowed people to collect essential food items and clothing for just Tk5.
The exceptional market was held on Tuesday around 11am at Jadughar Mor in the Hatemkha area of the city.
Nearly one thousand low-income individuals were able to purchase the necessary items at a nominal price in the haat. Going beyond conventional relief efforts, the organizers added a distinctive touch to the initiative.
Instead of distributing items for free, the organizers set a symbolic price of Tk5, allowing beneficiaries to choose one item, such as vermicelli, sugar, oil, or rice. New and used clothing were also made available so that no one would be deprived of Eid joy.
According to the organizers, the initiative was designed to preserve people’s dignity by avoiding direct charity. This approach helps beneficiaries to obtain essential items respectfully, without having to ask for help.
Different low-income people participated in the event. Beneficiaries who stood in line to collect goods expressed satisfaction at receiving essential items at such a low cost.
Asadul Islam, a person with a disability, said he was very happy to receive vermicelli despite waiting in line for a long time.
Rahela Begum shared that getting a new dress for just 5 taka would make her family’s Eid even more joyful.
