Man hacked to death in Keraniganj

A 23-year-old man was shot and hacked to death inside a salon in Keraniganj on Tuesday afternoon, in an attack linked to local gang and drug rivalries.

The deceased was identified as Md Farhad Hossain, reportedly a member of the “Patali Gang”-a youth gang active in Mohammadpur’s Rayerbazar area.

The attack occurred around 3:00 pm at “Raj Salon” in the Arshinagar area of Keraniganj. Critically injured Farhad was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where attending doctors pronounced him dead.

CCTV footage of the incident shows three youths entering the salon. One of the assailants, dressed in a black T-shirt, pulled a pistol from a bag while his two accomplices brandished machetes.

The trio shot and hacked Farhad-who was wearing only a lungi-before dragging the attack out to the road and fleeing the scene.

Confirming the incident, Keraniganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ruhul Quddus stated that preliminary investigations point to drug trade disputes as the motive.

“Farhad was involved in drug-related activities, and initial information suggests he was killed over an internal feud. CCTV footage shows three individuals directly involved, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend them,” the OC said.

The victim’s body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy, while a police team has been deployed to the site to collect evidence. Further details will emerge following a full investigation, police added.
