Excess fare collection on Dhaka-Ctg highway

In Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, two transport companies have been fined a total of 8,500 taka for charging excess fares from passengers at Shimrail Mor and Kanchpur areas on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The operation was conducted on Tuesday (March 17) at noon through a joint mobile court initiative by the district administration and RAB-11. The matter was confirmed by RAB-11 Company Commander Lieutenant Commander Naeem Ul Haque.

He stated that ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, complaints had spread on social media and in the news that long-distance passengers were being charged more than the government-fixed fare.

This created public dissatisfaction, prompting victims to seek intervention from law enforcement agencies.

In response, a coordinated drive was carried out at bus counters in Chittagong Road and Kanchpur areas.

Evidence of overcharging was found during the operation, leading to fines of 4,300 taka for Nilachal Paribahan and 4,200 taka for Econo Paribahan.

RAB officials said that such operations will continue to reduce passenger suffering during Eid travel and to ensure adherence to fixed fares.
