Over 1,100 children killed or injured since war began: UNICEF

More than 1,100 children have been reported killed or injured since the war between the United States, Israel and Iran began on Feb 28, according to the UN children’s agency UNICEF.

In a statement, UNICEF said the “intensifying conflict” is creating a “catastrophic” situation for millions of children across the Middle East.

The toll includes 200 children reportedly killed in Iran, 91 in Lebanon, four in Israel and one in Kuwait, the agency said.

UNICEF warned the numbers are likely to rise as the violence intensifies and spreads.

Millions of children have also missed school due to the crisis, while hundreds of thousands have been displaced by ongoing bombardment.

“Nothing justifies the killing and maiming of children, or the destruction and disruption of essential services that children depend on,” it said, adding that the region’s 200 million children are “counting on the world to act quickly”.
