Home minister’s stance to guide police killings probe: Fakhrul
Thakurgaon Correspondent :
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the inquest into the killing of police members during the July Uprising will proceed in line with the position taken by the home minister.
Speaking to reporters on Friday after inaugurating a new building at Hajipara Hafezia Madrasa in Thakurgaon town, Fakhrul said the probe would be conducted swiftly.
“Whatever the home minister has said about investigating the police killings during the July Uprising, that will prevail,” he said.
“Also, if necessary, an investigation will be conducted, because the matters are in court.”
The minister said that for a long time there had been allegations that the “fascist government” had weakened several state institutions.
“The big challenge before the new government is to restructure those institutions, ensure accountability and re-establish the framework of good governance,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to voters in his constituency, Fakhrul said he remained indebted to the people of Thakurgaon-1 for their support.
“They have supported me by giving me their valuable votes. I want to work responsibly to repay their trust and love,” he added.
