DU Int’l seminar on regional input-output analysis organised

The 2nd International Seminar on Regional Input-Output Analysis took place on Monday, at the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka. Organised jointly by the University of Dhaka’s Center for Trade and Investment (CTI) and Japan’s Ritsumeikan University, the event drew experts to discuss key economic tools.
Professor Dr. Mahmud Ul Osman Imam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, served as the chief guest. Special guests included Professor Kazuo Inaba, Professor Takahiko Hashimoto, Professor Shuji Matsuno, and Professor Toshiyaki Yamai from Ritsumeikan University; Professor Shiro Taku from Yokohama National University; and Ichiguchi Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh.
CTI Director Professor Dr. Mohammad Toufiqul Islam delivered the welcome address, while Professor Dr. Muhammad Shariyat Ullah coordinated the seminar. Speakers highlighted the growing importance of regional and global input-output analysis in promoting trade diversification, value-added trade, and sustainable industrial development.
The day-long event featured three sessions with seven research papers presented by distinguished researchers, including Rahman Mohammad Sayedur, Lingshin Zhu, Professor Shuji Matsuno, Mohammad Roni, and Md. Abdur Rahman.
Topics covered international trade, regional economics, value-added analysis, and data-driven policymaking.
Participants from Bangladesh and Japan-including teachers, researchers, students, and policymakers-committed to strengthening academic ties and expanding joint research for evidence-based policy decisions.
