Minister calls for stronger BD-IFRC climate partnership

Bangladesh has praised the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for its longstanding humanitarian support, as the organisation’s outgoing Head of Delegation, Alberto Bocanegra, paid a farewell call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at her office on Sunday.

During the meeting, Bocanegra briefed the State Minister on the IFRC’s major humanitarian activities and achievements during his tenure in Bangladesh.

He highlighted the organisation’s work in disaster preparedness, climate resilience, health services and assistance to displaced populations.

He also expressed his appreciation for the continued support and constructive cooperation extended by the Government of Bangladesh throughout his tenure.

Shama Obaed congratulated Bocanegra on the successful completion of his assignment and commended his leadership of the IFRC’s operations in Bangladesh.

She acknowledged the IFRC’s longstanding partnership with Bangladesh since the country’s Liberation War and praised its significant contributions to emergency response and humanitarian assistance.
