Malaysia keen to deepen bilateral ties with Bangladesh

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday extended his warm congratulations to newly elected Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, in a phone call that highlighted both leaders’ shared desire to strengthen bilateral relations.
Anwar in a Facebook post on Friday expressed his admiration for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) landslide victory in the recent parliamentary elections and invited Rahman to visit Malaysia at a convenient time.
He also took the opportunity to commend the people of Bangladesh for their maturity in maintaining a peaceful and orderly democratic process during the elections.
Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysian Prime Minister called to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday around 3pm and warmly congratulated him on becoming the Prime Minister and on the massive election victory, Prime Minister ‘ Press Secretary Saleh Shibly told The New Nation.
The two leaders exchanged cordial greetings during the conversation, reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation between the two nations. Strengthening ties in key areas such as trade, investment, and people-to-people connectivity was at the forefront of the discussion.
“Malaysia is looking forward to close cooperation with the new leadership of Bangladesh in strengthening and lifting the bilateral relationship to a higher level,” Anwar wrote in his post.
In addition to the Malaysia-Bangladesh conversation, Rahman has received congratulatory messages from several other world leaders, including from the United States, China, India, and Pakistan.
Diplomatic observers have noted that the swift wave of congratulations signals significant international interest in engaging with Rahman’s new administration on matters related to economic growth, regional stability, and development cooperation.
The warm exchanges underscore a broader commitment from both Bangladesh and Malaysia to further deepen their partnership, particularly in areas of trade and strategic collaboration.
Malaysia has long been an important partner to Bangladesh in sectors like agriculture, education, and workforce migration, and both leaders expressed a shared desire to continue building on these ties.
