‘UP poll schedule to be announced this month’

The Election Commission is set to announce the schedule for the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) elections within this month, Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar said.

He said the code of conduct for the local government elections has already been finalised.

According to the Election
Commissioner, preparations for the UP elections are progressing.

The voter list has been updated and polling stations have already been designated, while the process of preparing panels of presiding officers and assistant presiding officers is currently underway.

The Election Commission will hold a review meeting on the UP elections next week, he added.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami had earlier demanded that teachers from MPO-listed educational institutions be allowed to contest or participate in the elections.

However, the Election Commission believes that the political involvement of teachers could hamper the maintenance of a conducive environment in educational institutions.

The commission is now reviewing the matter as part of its preparations for the upcoming UP elections.
