Mango blossoms fill air with fragrance in Kamalganj
Moulvibazar Correspondent :
The air in Kamalganj is now filled with the sweet, intoxicating fragrance of mango blossoms, signaling the arrival of the honey season. Bees hum among the flowers, and the koel’s melodious call announces the arrival of spring, the king of seasons. Small and large mango trees have begun to bloom with new buds, spreading their enchanting scent and heralding the season of honey.
In rural Bangladesh, mango blossoms traditionally signal the approach of the season, and this year, spring is announcing itself across Kamalganj’s mango trees.
On the ground, it can be seen that mango trees in various villages beside police stations, in home courtyards, along ponds, and roadside markets are beginning to bloom with yellow buds. Gradually, every branch is becoming adorned with flowers, enhancing the beauty of nature.
Locals say favorable weather has caused the mango trees to bloom earlier than usual. By the start of Falgun (Bangla month), all trees are in full bloom. Although Kamalganj does not have commercial mango orchards, residents often collect saplings from local markets and plant them in their courtyards.
People also note that fog is the main threat to mango blossoms, as it can damage the flowers. This year, however, the weather has been favorable, allowing early blooming. With proper care, the yield is expected to be good.
Tanim Hasan of Kamalganj municipality said, “Mango blossoms started appearing at the beginning of Falgun. There are far more flowers than in previous years. Although some buds are being damaged by rain, if weather conditions remain favorable, this year promises a bumper mango harvest.”
Salma Begum of Bhanugachh Bazar added, “The buds appeared a bit earlier than usual. After the buds appeared, we began initial care of the trees.”
Kamalganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Joyanto Kumar Roy said, “The buds have appeared before the usual summer season. Some trees are already flowering, while others are still budding.
There are no official mango orchards in Kamalganj, only private trees. Anyone interested in commercial mango cultivation will receive proper guidance and support from the Upazila Agriculture Office.”
