No arrest in a week

A week has passed since the barbaric terrorist attack on M. Alam Murad, Joint Member-Secretary of the Age Limit 35 and Unemployment-Free Reform Movement, yet law enforcement has failed to arrest any of the accused.

In protest, the organisation held demonstrations on September 4 in front of Chittagong University (CU) and the Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University (DU). Movement convener Md. Yusuf Jamil, Member-Secretary Md. Azim Paik, and other central leaders strongly demanded the immediate arrest of the main attacker and instigator Abdus Salam and exemplary punishment for all involved.

On the afternoon of August 23, 2026, Murad was on his way to visit his ailing aunt in Rangunia, Chattogram, when a group of terrorists launched a sudden attack on him – reportedly stemming from a prior enmity and a dispute over illegal land grabbing.

The attackers repeatedly struck him on the head, hands, and legs with hammers and sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

He was first taken to the Upazila Health Complex and later admitted to the ICU of Chattogram Parkview Hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life.

Following the attack, Murad’s father filed a case at Rangunia Police Station against the land grabbers and terrorists.

The case names Nurul Azim Shalu, Ali Azgar, Ali Aiyas Sakib, and Md. Sojib, along with 10-15 unknown individuals. The court has issued warrants against the accused, who remain at large.
