BTTMEA for tariff value on import of 16″ to 20″ rim size tyres

The Bangladesh Tyre Tube Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BTTMEA) on Sunday urged the government to impose tariff value per kg on import of 16″ to 20″ rim size of tyres to check the trend of under-invoicing.
The Association made the demand when its leaders, led by its president, Golam Dastagir Gazi met Finance Minister AMA Muhith at his Secretariat office.
The BTTMEA also demanded the government correct the description of HS Code 4011.20.10 to “of rim size of 16 inch” instead of existing “of rim size up to 16 inch” since there is a scope for importing tyres below 16 inch rim size being used in other vehicles under this Code.
The Association leaders also cited that tyres with rim size of 12 inch, 14 inch and 15 inch are being imported India under the HS Code of 4011.20.10 though such rim size of tyres are being used in vehicles like pick-ups, microbuses, minibuses and trucks for which the proper HS Code is 4011.99.00.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Finance Minister said the government would consider the matter and appropriate steps would be taken in this regard before the passing of the proposed national budget for the new fiscal year 1015-’16.
Muhith hinted that the duty on import of the tyres would be
re-imposed or increased to protect the local industry.
