Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafique to visit Sylhet on Feb 7

SA Shofiee, Sylhet :

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is coming to Sylhet on an election tour. He will address the Sylhet Jamaat’s election public meeting at the historic Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa Ground as the chief guest on Saturday (February 7) at 3 pm. In addition, top leaders of the 11-party alliance will speak at the public meeting.

Meanwhile, a press briefing has been held on the occasion of the election public meeting at Alia Madrasa Ground and the visit of the Ameer-e-Jamaat to Sylhet by the Sylhet District and Metropolitan Jamaat.

The press briefing was held at the main election office of Maulana Habibur Rahman, the MP candidate nominated by Jamaat and the 11-party alliance for Sylhet-1 (Metropolitan and Sadar) constituency, at the United Community Center across Dhopadighire in the city at 2 pm on Thursday.

Jamaat’s Central Working Committee Member, Sylhet Metropolitan Ameer and Metropolitan 11-Party Alliance Coordinator Muhammad Fakhrul Islam presided over the press briefing and was conducted by Metropolitan Nayeb Ameer Dr. Nurul Islam Babul.

Top metropolitan leaders of the 11-party alliance were present at the press briefing. Journalists from various electronic, print and online media working in Sylhet were present at the press briefing. Metropolitan Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam answered various questions from the journalists.

In the president’s speech and in response to various questions from the journalists, Jamaat’s Central Working Committee Member, Sylhet Metropolitan Ameer and Metropolitan 11-Party Alliance Coordinator Muhammad Fakhrul Islam said that the election public meeting organized by Sylhet District and Metropolitan Jamaat at Alia Madrasa Ground at 3 pm on Saturday will turn into a sea of people, God willing.

The Jamaat and 11-party alliance candidates from 6 constituencies in Sylhet district and the Jamaat and 11-party alliance candidates from 4 constituencies in Sunamganj district will be introduced in the said public meeting. The top officials of the law enforcement agencies including the police, RAB, and the district returning officer and the deputy commissioner have already been contacted after the public meeting was successful.

The administration has assured all kinds of cooperation. We seek the cooperation of the people of Sylhet, including our journalist friends, to make the public meeting a success. Our public meeting will start at 3 pm and will end by 4:30 pm. The Ameer-e-Jamaat will land at the Sylhet District Stadium by helicopter.

Earlier, he will join public meetings in Habiganj and Moulvibazar. The public meeting in Sunamganj has been canceled due to lack of time.

Muhammad Fakhrul Islam said in a press briefing that the nation is eagerly waiting to vote in the elections. The fallen fascist government has taken away the right to vote from the people without a vote, at midnight and through dummy elections. This time, people want to exercise their right to vote without any fear.

But due to the administration’s failure to recover illegal weapons, weapons looted from the police station and the lack of effective operations to arrest terrorists, there are various fears in the public mind.

In the meantime, the identified terrorists and kidnappers of the city are active in the field under the shelter of a political party. In addition, the recent attack on the Amberkhana police station in the city and an attempt to kidnap the kidnapper, the arrest of a terrorist by the army from Subidbazar in the city under Section 54 and sending him to jail and giving him a floral reception as soon as possible after his release are obstacles to free and fair elections.

He said, there is a risk of illegal weapons coming through the Sylhet border. In that case, the effective role of the administration is not visible. The administration must play an effective role for free and fair elections.

The clash between the leaders and activists of the opposing candidate’s own party is spreading fear in the public.

The administration must dispel this fear. Illegal weapons must be recovered and the terrorists must be arrested.
Present at the press briefing were – Maulana Habibur Rahman, the candidate nominated by Jamaat and the 11-party alliance in Sylhet-1 constituency, Hafiz Abdul Hai Harun, Jamaat’s Sylhet regional team member and election director in Sylhet-1 constituency, Advocate Abdur Rahman Afzal, Sylhet metropolitan convener of Jatiya Nagorik Party-NCP, Alhaj Maulana Emran Alam, Sylhet metropolitan president of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Hafiz Maulana Tajul Islam Hasan, Sylhet metropolitan president of Khelafat Majlis, Mozammel Hossain Liton, Sylhet metropolitan convener of AB Party, Md. Omar Faruk, JAGPA Sylhet Metropolitan President Shahjahan Ahmed Liton, BDP Sylhet Metropolitan Convener Kabir Ahmed and Metropolitan Jamaat Secretary Mohammad Shahjahan Ali, etc.

Maulana Habibur Rahman, the candidate nominated by Jamaat and 11-party alliance in Sylhet-1 (Metropolitan and Sadar) constituency, said, “Although there are various concerns about free and fair elections, we want to have faith in the law enforcement forces including the patriotic army.” He sought the cooperation of the people of Sylhet, including journalists, so that every person can vote without any hindrance.
