Police arrest Barishal UP Chairman

Joint forces have arrested Soikat Guha Piklu, chairman of Mahilara Union Parishad in Gournadi upazila of Barishal and joint general secretary of the banned Upazila Awami League and his younger brother Salil Guha Pintu, a member of the Upazila Jubo League.

During this, 3 cocktails, sharp weapons, local and foreign liquor and 57 checkbooks were recovered from their houses during a search.

In a special operation led by a group of army members from the Gournadi army camp, they were arrested along with weapons, cocktails and liquor from their houses in the Bilbagram area of the upazila on Tuesday. Gournadi Police Station OC Tariq Hasan Russell confirmed the matter.

The OC said that based on intelligence information, a joint operation team led by the 62 East Bengal Regiment of the 6th Infantry Brigade under the 7th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army conducted a raid on the house of UP Chairman Saikat Guha Piklu in Billagram area of Gournadi upazila around on Tuesday noon.

At that time, UP Chairman Saikat Guha Piklu and his younger brother Salil Guha Pintu were arrested.

During a search of their house, the joint forces recovered various types of domestic weapons, domestic and foreign illegal liquor, 57 check books and three cocktails.
The arrested two were handed over to Gournadi police station around 4 pm for legal action.

The recovered goods are being reviewed. Preparations are underway to file a case in this regard, said OC Tariq Hasan Russell.
