Brad Pitt considered suicide after falling out with Jolie
Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has revealed one of the darkest periods of his life. The Oscar-winning actor said he once considered suicide due to ‘family problems.’
In a recent exclusive interview with entertainment and lifestyle magazine ‘Esquire’, he spoke openly about his mental health, drinking problems, and personal struggles following his breakup with Angelina Jolie.
The 61-year-old actor doesn’t usually talk about his personal life publicly. However, in an interview, he said that there was a time in his life when he was mentally broken and could not see any end to the pain.
Describing his mental state, Pitt said, “I have never been a suicidal person. It’s not part of my nature.”
Referring to his positive outlook, he said, “I am a naturally optimistic person. This positive mindset has helped me get out of various difficult situations.”
However, recalling a specific period in his life, he said, “I never thought about suicide except for a brief period. But at that particular moment, I couldn’t see any way forward for myself.”
Describing the intensity of the mental anguish, Brad Pitt said, “The pain was so overwhelming and suffocating that, even though I didn’t actually take any extreme action, it felt like the cold touch of a bullet to the head would bring me peace.
Then I thought, ‘Oh, now I understand.’ I realised that the main reason behind suicide was simply a desire to escape the pain.”
However, he said that immediately after this thought, his instinct for survival or the urge to protect himself was awakened.
When asked whether this emotional pain was caused by an incident with his children, Pitt briefly said, “Family matters… Let’s end it here.”
Hollywood’s once most talked-about couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, affectionately known as ‘Brangelina’ by their fans, split in 2016 after two years of marriage.
That same year, Jolie filed for divorce and demanded full custody of their six children. Pitt and Jolie have six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox.
The relationship between the father and the children has been quite cold since the separation.
Recently, it has been reported that several of their children have dropped their father’s surname ‘Pete’ from their names.
