Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan’s Post India is undermining Bangladesh’s security by sheltering Hasina

Staff Reporter :

Former Army Chief Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan believes that India is undermining Bangladesh’s security by providing shelter to Sheikh Hasina, who has been convicted for genocide.

He said that India had been a collaborator in the fascist rule for the last 15 years and continues to extend state support to Sheikh Hasina even now. Against this injustice, the people of Bangladesh will be compelled to resist. He made these remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account on Monday.

He further wrote that last Friday, January 23, at a press conference organized at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Delhi, an audio speech of Sheikh Hasina was broadcast. With the direct backing of the Indian government, provocative statements were made there against Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty, and democracy.

This incident proves that by sheltering Sheikh Hasina, India is undermining Bangladesh’s security, which amounts to blatant interference by the BJP government in Bangladesh’s sovereignty. As a result, tensions between the two countries will increase, and the already deteriorating relationship will suffer further—something that is not beneficial for anyone.

The former Army Chief further wrote that India had been a collaborator in the fascist rule for 15 years and continues to provide state support to Sheikh Hasina even now. The people of Bangladesh will be forced to stand up against this injustice.

The core issue behind the people of Bangladesh’s opposition to Sheikh Hasina and her party, the Awami League, is ensuring justice and punishment for fascist misrule, mass killings, and the plundering of national resources.

A large portion of the top criminals has fled the country. Many of them have taken refuge in neighboring countries, and India has allowed—and continues to allow—this without restraint.

Only after the ongoing judicial process is completed and the punishments determined by court verdicts are fully executed or implemented can any decision be made regarding the political rights of the Awami League. Not before that—and the people of Bangladesh will not allow it otherwise.

Yet, India is doing exactly the opposite. They are attempting to conceal crimes, sheltering the accused, and avoiding the issue of justice, while pressuring the Bangladesh government to immediately restore political rights to the accused.

Sixty-six years ago, by giving shelter to the Dalai Lama, India became embroiled in conflict with the People’s Republic of China and continues to pay the price for it to this day. It does not appear that India has learned any lesson from that experience. I fear that the consequences of sheltering and patronizing Sheikh Hasina will force the country to pay an even greater price.
