Bhola trawler capsize kills 8

Eight people, including four minor children and a woman, were killed and 30 passengers went missing as a trawler carrying at least 100 passengers capsized in the Meghna river in Monpura upazila on Thursday morning. Three of the deceased were identified as Jesmin, 22, her daughter Rupa, 3, and another minor child Momtaz. Police said the trawler bound to Hajirhat from Kalatoli capsized in the Meghna river for bad weather around 11:30. Later, bodies of eight people including four children and a woman were recovered from the river. However, local people rescued 15/20 passengers from the river. Firoz, sub-inspector of Monpura Police Station, confirmed the incident. The capsized trawler was retrieved from the river by the local people, added the SI. — Bhola, June 11 (UNB)
