EC issues show-cause notice to Mamunul Haque
Staff reporter :
The Election Commission (EC) has served a show-cause notice on Bangladesh Khelafat Majlisnominated Dhaka-13 candidate Md Mamunul Haque for allegedly violating the electoral code of conduct ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections.
According to the notice, Mamunul Haque distributed campaign leaflets among the public in front of the EC building around 5:00pm on January 13, accompanied by his supporters.
The EC said the act amounted to premature electioneering, as it took place nearly three weeks before the official campaign period, while polling is scheduled for February 12.
Such activities violate Rules 3 and 18 of the Political Parties and Candidates’ Code of Conduct for Parliamentary Elections 2025, the commission noted.
The EC has asked Mamunul Haque to explain why legal action should not be taken against him for breaching the code. He has been directed to submit a written reply in person or through a representative by 5:00pm on January 17.
