Foundation of Madunaghat water plant laid
Water treatment more expensive than oil refining

Minister for Local Govt, Rural Development and Cooperatives Syed Ashraful Islam said , water treatment is more expensive than the oil refining.
He called upon the city dwellers to avoid misusing of water at any cost.
The Minister disclosed it while addressing the foundation laying ceremony through unveiling plaque of Madunaghat Water Treatment Plant in the city at Engineers Institute yesterday morning as Chief Guest.
The minister reiterated that though the water treatment is more expensive, we should not destroy the sources of water and we are filling the river, canals, tanks etc regularly. He said we should realize the significance of water sources .
Chairman of the CWASA Engr AKM Fazlullah chaired the ceremony and delivered address of welcome on the occasion.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Engr. Moshraf Hossain delivered his speech as keynote speaker. Among others, state minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury , former mayor and City AL President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, newly- elected mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Secretary of the LGRD Ministry Abdul Malek, General Secretary of Chittagong North and South Awami League respectively MA Salam and Mofizur Rahman spoke on the occasion.
The principal speaker on the occasion Engr. Moshraf Hossain emphasized the need of the water of Halda and Karnaphuli river. He also asked all irrespective of caste and creed to save these two rivers for survival of the people of the port city . He also mentioned that Karnaphuli Water supply project now undergoing at Rangunia and the proposed Madunaghat Project based on water of Karnaphuli and Halda.

The second mega water project named Madunaghat Water Treatment Plant at a cost of Tk.1078 crores under Chittagong WASA is going to be implemented from next month at Madunaghat karnaphuli river side at the concluding hour of the first water mega project of Karnaphuli Water Supply Project (KWSP) at Rangunia .
In the meantime, a contract has been signed with a Chinese contracting firm,sources said. Meanwhile CWASA has declared that the project work mega water project KWSP will be completed in October next and total of 13.60 cr liters of water will be treated for supply to the port city.
The sources said the total demand of the port city is 50 crores liter per day and CWASA will be able to supply maximum requirement of the city dwellers including 22 crores liters water from KWSP and Madunaghat project .
While contacted Managing Director of the CWASA Engr. Fazlullah told the New Nation that under financial assistance of World Bank , Madunaghat Project will be implemented.
Out of the total project cost of Tk.1078 cr, World Bank will provide Tk.972 cr , GOB will provide Tk.84 cr and CWASA to assist only Tk.21 crores. The project work will start from next month which will be completed by end of 2019 , sources said.
