DU Correspondent :

The Shaheed Osman Hadi Memorial Book Fair-2026 is set to begin at the University of Dhaka under the joint initiative of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and the Bangladesh Young Columnists Forum, University of Dhaka unit.

The five-day book fair will be held from January 18 to January 22 this year, at the TSC Payra Chattar on the DU campus.

The fair will remain open to visitors every day from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The inauguration ceremony will be presided over by Omar Bin Hadi, brother of Shaheed Osman Hadi. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, will attend the event as the chief guest, while DUCSU Vice President Abu Sadik Kayem, among other distinguished guests, will be present as special guests.

The announcement of the book fair was made on Monday at a press conference held in front of the Madhur Canteen of the University of Dhaka. The press conference was addressed by Ashik Khan, President of the Bangladesh Young Columnists Forum, DU unit. Also present were General Secretary Abid Hasan Rafi and DUCSU Literature and Cultural Secretary Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad.

In his written statement, Ashik Khan said that Shaheed Osman Hadi was not merely an individual but a symbol of resistance and protest against injustice in contemporary times.

He added that Osman Hadi’s uncompromising stance against Indian hegemony, fascism, and repression continues to inspire the youth.

The primary objective of the book fair, he noted, is to introduce the life, ideology, and struggles of Shaheed Osman Hadi to the new generation, to awaken a spirit of resistance through reading and critical thinking, and to establish books as tools of resistance and free thought.

According to the organisers, the book fair will feature stalls of various publishing houses, along with commemorative events, discussion sessions, seminars, and special programmes focusing on the life and struggle of Shaheed Osman Hadi, with active participation from young writers and readers.

Speaking at the press conference, DUCSU Literature and Cultural Secretary Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad said that the initiative aims to carry forward the cultural struggle of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.

He added that the organisers are committed to holding the memorial book fair every year on a regular basis.
The organisers believe that the book fair will not merely be a cultural event, but a platform for raising voices against injustice, promoting freedom of thought, and standing in favour of justice.
