BNP govt committed to inclusive campuses

Bangladesh needs open and inclusive educational institutions where students can freely pursue knowledge, explore diverse ideas and develop their own views through reason and conscience, said Maulana Karim Ibn Mosabbir. A former central leader of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh.

In an article titled “Different People, Different Opinions and Different Paths,” he said an open campus environment was essential for building a peaceful, democratic and knowledge-based society.

Referring to the emergence of Islam and the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he described Islam as a path towards peace and social order, contrasting it with what he characterised as the disorder and conflict of the pre-Islamic era.

He said educational institutions in Bangladesh should provide an environment where students can freely exchange views and learn about different schools of thought.

According to him, creating such an environment is a demand of the present time.
He also praised the BNP governments for what he described as contributions to public welfare and development in sectors including education, healthcare, communications and sports.

He listed several initiatives that he attributed to BNP governments, including the introduction of “Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim” at the beginning of the Constitution, efforts to formulate a framework for open campuses, initiatives against examination malpractice, restoration of multiparty democracy and efforts to strengthen communal harmony.

He also claimed that BNP governments had sought to establish a more open and liberal environment in the country’s educational institutions.

“Different people, different opinions and different paths”-this diversity, he said, should be embraced to build peaceful, democratic and knowledge-based campuses.

He stressed the need for an open, examination-malpractice-free, peaceful and liberal environment across Bangladesh’s educational institutions.
