DU hosts 3-day non-fiction book fair

DU Correspondent:

A three-day non-fiction book fair began at the University of Dhaka on Saturday, organised jointly by the Faculty of Business Studies and the daily Bonik Barta. The 9th edition of the fair was inaugurated at the Faculty of Business Studies premises by Dhaka University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Saima Haque Bidisha.

Academics, officials and student representatives attended the opening ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Bidisha said book fairs play a significant role in promoting book buying and reading, as well as in the creation and dissemination of new knowledge. She noted that such initiatives help strengthen the connection between universities and society.

“Books provide nourishment for human thought, enhance analytical ability and help improve interpersonal relationships,” she said.

She also thanked the organisers for arranging a non-fiction book fair on the university campus and expressed hope that the event would inspire students to develop a stronger reading habit.
