Sanko to invest $300m in Mirsarai textile hub

In a major shot in the arm for Bangladesh’s primary textile sector, Turkish textile conglomerate Sanko Group has announced an investment of $300 million to set up a state-of-the-art integrated manufacturing facility in the Mirsarai economic zone.

The landmark project marks one of the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into the country’s textile ecosystem in recent years.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting between a Sanko Group delegation and Commerce, Industries, and Textiles & Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir at the Secretariat on Tuesday. State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam was also present during the discussions.

Delegation members revealed that Sanko is strategically transitioning from exporting textile products out of Turkey to establishing a comprehensive manufacturing hub directly in Bangladesh.

The proposed facility will focus on advanced fabric manufacturing, high-end processing, and value-added textile production tailored for international export markets.

According to Sanko officials, Bangladesh’s competitive advantages a skilled labor pool, strong export capabilities, and an inviting investment climate played a decisive role in their location choice.

The project will bring advanced processing technologies, boost local industrial capabilities, and drive technology transfer, empowering domestic players to move further up the value chain.

Preliminary site selection and discussions with local partners have already been finalized. Construction of the plant is projected to be completed within 12 to 18 months following regulatory approvals, with commercial operations slated to begin shortly thereafter.

To ensure smooth operations, the Turkish delegation requested dedicated government support for uninterrupted power and gas supply alongside streamlined regulatory clearances.

On their part, Sanko pledged to implement eco-friendly, coal-free energy solutions to align with global sustainability standards.

Welcoming the proposal, Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir assured the investors of complete government backing.

He emphasized the administration’s commitment to fostering a seamless business environment through infrastructure support and investor-friendly policies, noting that the mega-investment will play a crucial role in modernizing the nation’s textile sector, diversifying exports, and generating extensive employment.
