Dummy COP conference held in Kishoreganj

Malala Fund ‘s education networking including POPI an NGO of the country, arranged a Dummy Conference of Parties (COP),aiming to enhance climate change awareness, leadership skills and global understanding among haor’s students from climate-vulnerable communities held at Kishoreganj ‘s Nikli Zila Parishad Auditorium on Wednesday.
The active participation of secondary-level students, teachers and education advocates from Kishoreganj’s haor region.
Project Manager of POPI, education champion network, Faridul Alam presided over the function.
The event simulated the structure and procedures of the United Nations (UNs) Climate Change Conference (COP), where students represented different member states and participated in structured discussions on global climate challenges, responsibilities and solutions.
Climate Change from the haor region is one of the most climate-vulnerable areas in Bangladesh, frequently affected by early floods, flash floods, crop losses and prolonged school closures.
“The haor is not just a geographical area; it is a living example of climate injustice. Through this Dummy COP, students are learning how global decisions affect local realities.”
Student Participation and country representations during the conference sessions, participating students assumed the roles of delegates from different countries, presenting their respective national climate contexts, vulnerabilities and priorities.
The discussions covered key global climate themes, including climate adaptation and mitigation loss and damage climate finance.
The Education Champion Network works to promote inclusive education, prevent school dropouts and child marriage, and build resilience among students living in climate-risk areas.
