Trivedi briefs Modi after Dhaka talks

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday, briefing him on his recent consultations in Dhaka with Bangladesh’s political leadership as the two neighbours seek to advance bilateral relations.

Trivedi returned to New Delhi on Monday after a series of high-level meetings in Dhaka, which were viewed as part of ongoing efforts to maintain engagement and pursue a constructive path in relations between Bangladesh and India.

During his 24-hour stay in Dhaka, Trivedi held three key meetings with senior Bangladeshi officials.

He first met Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on Sunday at State Guest House Padma.

On Monday, he held separate courtesy meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The meetings covered issues of mutual interest and came amid renewed diplomatic consultations between the two countries.

During his meeting with Tarique Rahman, Trivedi conveyed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings to the Bangladesh prime minister.

He also conveyed India’s intention to work with the Bangladesh government and people in a “positive, constructive and forward-looking” manner.

The high commissioner’s meeting with Modi in New Delhi followed the Dhaka consultations, allowing him to brief the Indian leadership on his discussions with Bangladesh’s senior officials.

The diplomatic engagements come as Dhaka and New Delhi seek to build greater predictability and constructive engagement in their bilateral relationship, with both sides maintaining channels for dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
