DU Geology dept celebrated Platinam Jubilee

The 75th anniversary celebration of the department was held on Saturday at the departmental premises under the joint initiative of the Department of Geology, Dhaka University and the Geology Alumni Association.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, attended in the program as the chief guest.
The event was presided over by the convener of the organizing committee and President of the Geology Alumni Association, Professor Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir spoke as special guests.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government Md. Shamsul Islam Mehdi, Chairman of the Department Prof. Dr. Md. Badruddoza Mia and President of the Bangladesh Geological Society Prof. Dr. Badrul Imam delivered the welcome address. Professor of the Department Dr. Subrata Kumar Saha expressed his vote of thanks. Professor Dr. Sanjida Murshed conducted the program. 22 retired teachers and professionals of the department were honored at the program.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan thanked the department and the Alumni Association for honoring the retired teachers and professionals of the department on the occasion of its 75th anniversary.
He said that Dhaka University, as a social institution, lives with the society. The Alumni Association is playing an important role in strengthening the relationship between Dhaka University and the society. He called on the alumni to play an effective role in strengthening the industry-academia relationship, strengthening the relationship between the university and the society and bridging the gap between academia and professionals.
It is worth noting that a minute of silence was observed at the beginning of the program in memory of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, a symbol of national unity.
