3 held over college student murder

Police in a raid on Sunday night arrested three persons in connection with the killing of college student Abdur Rahman Riyad from different places in Sirajganj town.
The arrested have been identified as Ashique, son of Abdus Sattar, Sakib Ibrahim, son of Jamal Sheikh and Mehedi Hasan, son of Uzzal Hossain of Dhanbandhi area in the town.
Police said, they were picked up from their residents after filing a case by the victim’s father Rejaul Karim.
A group of youths numbering 12 to 15 stopped the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw carrying Riyad at Chowrasta intersection near police outpost number-1 in Sirajganj town at around 4:00 PM on Sunday last and chopped him brutally on broad day light. Latter, the attackers left the spot raising the weapons.
Hearing the screaming, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the victim Riyad. Then, he was taken to M Monsur Ali Medical College in the town, where the on duty doctors declared him dead at 7:00pm.
Victim’s father Rejaul Karim lodged a case with Sirajganj Sadar police station in this connection accusing 20 persons including naming 11.
After the incident, panic has spread out in the town. Police launched drive to nab the killers.
Nazran Rouf, Additional Superintendent of Police in Sirajganj said, “The arrestees are being interrogated. Besides, the effort to nab other involved is underway.”
Shahidul Islam, Officer in Charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station said, “No one will be spared. Effort to nab the attackers is going on in full swing.”
Locals said, the law and order situation in the town has deteriorated for the last few months due to inactiveness of the law enforcers. As a result, town dwellers are experiencing one after another clash between several groups of people in different areas. They claimed that the nuisance of teenage gangs has been increased despite several attempts of the police.
