NCP’s Rumi found dead at hostel

Staff Reporter :

Police recovered the body of Jannatara Rumi, 30, a National Citizen Party (NCP) member, from a student hostel in Hazaribagh on Thursday, officials said.

Inspector Shahadat Hossain of Hazaribagh Police Station said the body was discovered at a hostel on Old Kachabazar Road in Jigatala, hanging from a ceiling fan. Rumi’s body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will be determined following the autopsy.

Rumi was the daughter of Md Zakir Hossain from Patnitala Upazila in Naogaon and served as the joint coordinator of the NCP’s Dhanmondi Thana branch, according to Saleh Uddin Sifat, the party’s joint member secretary (office).

“The domestic aide first noticed her hanging through a gap in the partition board separating rooms in the shared hostel accommodation. She alerted others, who then informed the police,” Inspector Shahadat said.

Police recovered anti-depression medication from Rumi’s room. “After speaking with neighbors, we learned that she had mental health issues related to family troubles,” the officer added.
Authorities are investigating the incident, but initial reports suggest the death may be linked to personal and mental health challenges.
