BGB seizes smuggled goods

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted operations across the country, including border areas, throughout October 2025, seizing smuggled goods worth over 206 crore 42 lakh Bangladeshi Taka.

The confiscated items included 3.262 kilograms of gold, 11.41 kilograms of silver, 33,910 saris, 19,580 pieces of clothing such as tripis, shirt pieces, shawls, and blankets, 16,991 ready-made garments, 569 meters of Thaan fabric, 171,946 cosmetic products, 6,227 imitation jewelry pieces, 1,761,526 fireworks, 6,052 cubic feet of timber, 4,589 kilograms of tea leaves, 10,392 kilograms of betel nuts, 31,651 kilograms of coal, 535 cubic feet of stone, 37,355 kilograms of fishing nets and ropes, 251 mobile phones, 31,678 mobile displays, 48,286 pairs of glasses, 40,826 kilograms of cumin, 9,914 kilograms of sugar, 26,458 kilograms of onions, 601 kilograms of garlic, 5,378 packets of various seeds, 7,690 kilograms of fertilizer, 5,024 packets of pesticides, 3,002 liters of diesel, 109,732 pieces of chocolates, 1,500 cattle (cows and buffaloes), 10 trucks/covered vans, 21 pickups/Mahindras, two tractors, four private cars/microbuses, nine trolleys, 197 boats, 32 CNGs/easy bikes, 49 motorcycles, and 30 bicycles/vans, according to a press release.

Recovered weapons included four domestic pistols, one revolver, three mortar shells, six hand grenades, three magazines, 53 rounds of ammunition, 250 grams of explosives, two detonators, and seven other arms.

In addition, the BGB seized a large quantity of drugs last month. Confiscated narcotics and intoxicants included 1,382,462 yaba tablets, 3.205 kilograms of heroin, 5,465 bottles of phensedyl, 10,582 bottles of foreign liquor, 251.5 liters of Bengali liquor, 1,267 cans of beer, 1,782.24 kilograms of marijuana, 130,759 packets of bidi and cigarettes, 55,917 narcotic tablets/injections, 4,082 bottles of cough syrup, 6,309 tablets of anegra/senegra, 130 kilograms of yaba powder, and 727,768 pieces of various medicines and other tablets.

During the operations, 184 smugglers were arrested for involvement in drug trafficking and other smuggling activities, along with 210 Bangladeshi and 3 Indian citizens detained for illegal border crossing. Additionally, 493 Myanmar nationals attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally were repatriated to their home country.
