Husband killed his wife by bringing her to the fence
Sylhet Bureau :
Four days after the body of an unidentified woman was recovered from a secluded hillock in Lakkatura tea garden in Sylhet city, the police have solved the mystery. After identifying the deceased based on the call records of her mobile phone, her husband has been arrested as a suspect.
The deceased woman, Rabeya Begum, is the daughter of the late Mahtab Mia of Mowlarpar village under Doara Bazar police station in Sunamganj district. Her husband’s name is Faruk Ahmed. He is the son of Oman returnee Abdul Aziz of Rangarchar village under Sunamganj Sadar police station
Additional Deputy Commissioner of SMP (Media) Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed this information on Sunday (October 19) morning.
Police said that on October 14, around 4:30 pm, the partially decomposed body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the bushes on a hill called Bhaigan in the Lakkatura tea garden of Airport Police Station. Initially, the age of the deceased is estimated to be around 25 years. A lady’s handbag was recovered from the scene. Some clothes and a memory card were found inside.
Police also said that after the body was recovered, the PBI and CID collected fingerprints and tried to identify the person, but it was not possible due to the decomposition. However, the police first identified the deceased by analyzing the audio record on the memory card and reviewing the call list (CDR) of the relevant mobile number. Later, when progress was made in the investigation through information technology, the police arrested the suspect, the deceased’s husband, Faruk Ahmed, on Friday (October 17). Initially, the deceased’s husband denied the murder charge, but at one stage of interrogation, he confessed to the murder.
Police said that during interrogation, the detained Faruk said that his wife had been hiding her previous marriage and had a relationship with another man while she was in Oman. On October 13, he came to Sylhet with his wife on the pretext of visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA). Later, he took her to a secluded hillock northeast of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on the pretext of going for a walk. There, around 4 pm, Faruk strangled his wife with the help of his cousin Alamin.
In this incident, last Friday (October 17), the deceased’s uncle Ripon Mia filed a murder case against the killer Faruk and unknown accused at the Airport Police Station of the Sylhet Metropolitan Police. Later, when Rabeya Begum’s husband, who was arrested in that case, was sent to the Moniba court the next day, he gave a confessional statement under Section 164. Later, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of SMP (Media) Mohammad Saiful Islam said, “It has been possible to unravel the mystery of the murder by identifying the body of an unidentified woman through the use of information technology. The murderer involved in the murder has been arrested. Efforts are also underway to arrest the other accomplice, Alamin.”
