Salahuddin wants to return home
Staff Reporter :Hasina Ahmed, wife of BNP Joint-Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed, met her husband in the Shillong Civil Hospital in Shillong on Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Hasina along with other family members reached Shillong, capital of the Indian state of Meghalaya, after an overnight stay in Kolkata. She left Dhaka for India on Sunday night, three hours after receiving the Indian visa. Salahuddin’s brother-in-law Mahbubul Kabir Munmun accompanied her. Meanwhile, Salahuddin expressed annoyance over the Interpol’s notice issued against him and said he wants to return home without any trouble. Bangladesh government should not have asked Interpol to issue red alert against him, he said. He was talking to reporters when he was being taken to the main building of Shillong Civil Hospital for a CT scan from the prison cell. Journalists from Bangladesh and India were present at the time. The hospital authorities carried out the CT scan, a day after BNP Assistant Office Secretary Abdul Latif Jony on Sunday claimed that Salahuddin has been losing memory.Salahuddin said, “Bangladesh is my country. Why will I not return to my own country? Why Interpol’s notice will be issued against me? I did not commit any crime. I am neither a fugitive nor an absconding. I have no idea why the government issued the red alert notice against me.” About his physical condition, he said he is seriously ill. He will take next decision after discussing with his wife. Party’s Joint Office Secretary Abdul Latif Jony, who has been sent to Shillong by BNP to support Salahuddin, said that the physical condition of the BNP leader is yet to be stable. “Salahuddin is also suffering from kidney and heart diseases. Doctors are examining him and they are carrying out some tests of him. They will take necessary action examining the test result,” he said.
