‘Country to face dire results if election not held in Feb’

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Md Shafiqul Alam said that country will face dire consequences if the parliamentary election is not held in February.

“The DUCSU election is the reflection for the next general election which will be good one. The political parties, civil society and students have set good example. No untoward incident took place at DUCSU election,” he said.

Alam came up with the remarks while addressing a roundtable titled “Fair Election : Expectation and Challenges” organised by Citizen Coalition held at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Thursday.

“The government would not be biased in the election process. Highest security would be ensured by the law enforcers so that voters can cast vote without fear,” he said.

About the general election, he said, “The Chief Adviser said that the general election would be held in February. If anybody wants to stay away from it, it would a dire consequence for the nation.

Around eight lakh law enforces would be deployed in the field to hold a fair election.”

“Good will of the political parties and candidates are imperative for holding a fair election. If people come to the polling centres, none has the power to make the election questionable,” he stressed.

He further said that some are stating that the interim government has done nothing. They are telling it out of emotion, he added.

“If you want to tell the success and failure of the government, submit the statistics. There has been much chaos after the July uprising. The biggest success of the government is that nothing happened in the country so far,” he concluded.
