Memorandum submitted demanding suspension of municipal holding tax increase in Joypurhat

A memorandum has been submitted to the Joypurhat Municipality Administrator with two demands, including the suspension of all activities to increase the municipal holding tax in Joypurhat. On Monday afternoon, Municipal Executive Officer (Acting) Abu Zafar Md. Reza accepted the memorandum on behalf of the Municipality Administrator.
The first demand of the demanding citizens is that all activities to increase the municipal holding tax, as per the decision taken by the Standing Committee on Tax Assessment and Collection, should be immediately suspended. At the same time, they demanded that the municipality issue a letter in this regard and inform the citizens through miking.
The second demand states that if a new government is formed after the 2026 national elections, the citizens of Joypurhat will pay the amount of holding tax determined by the mayor and his council elected by the voters of the municipal area through a public hearing.
Present at the presentation of the memorandum were M.A. Wahab, convener of the conscious municipal civil society and joint convener of the district BNP, ATM Shahnewaz Kabir Shuvro, prominent businessman and former convener of the Jubo Dal, Rasheduzzaman Rashed, president of Green and Clean Joypurhat, and educationist Principal Ali Hasan Mukta, among others.
