BD, Morocco to boost strategic partnership

Business Report :

Bangladesh’s economic engagement with Morocco is growing steadily, with the two nations expanding cooperation in trade, agriculture, education, and cultural exchange, said Moroccan Chargé d’Affaires in Dhaka Bouchaib Ez-Zahri.
He made the remarks on Saturday during a reception marking the 26th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne. Cultural Adviser Mostafa Sarwar Farooki attended the event as the chief guest. In 2023, Bangladesh imported $407 million worth of phosphatic and chemical fertilisers from Morocco, accounting for 75% of its total fertiliser imports. Over the past five years, Moroccan exports to Bangladesh have grown at an average annual rate of over 29%, according to Ez-Zahri.
A major milestone this year was the agreement signed in Rabat between Morocco’s OCP Group and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), which will ensure the supply of 1.1 million tonnes of non-urea fertilisers over the 2025-26 period, says a press release. “This is not just a commercial deal; it is a long-term alliance rooted in shared commitments to food security, sustainable agriculture, and innovation,” he said, adding that the partnership includes training, technology transfer, and research collaboration.
