Ctg Airport turns into smuggling zone
Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport has now becomes a zone for gold smuggling and contraband cigar trafficking.
Gold bars are frequently coming through this airport and recently two Biman workers were also rounded up with huge numbers of gold bars and readymade gold ornaments.
In continuation of gold smuggling, the trend of contraband cigar smuggling is gradually increasing in this route . Within the span of 24 hours, another consignment of contraband foreign cigars of 470 cartoons were seized on Thursday night.
The approximate cost of these cigars is about Tk.30 lakh, customs sources said.. Customs officials in Chittagong International Airport seized foreign brands 470 cartoon cigars of different varieties from cargo flight of Emirates Airways of UAE.
Acting on secret information, customs officials conducted checking of all cargo consignment of the flight and finally traced these cigars .
Customs officials of Chittagong Airport also said they seized 900 cartoons of contraband foreign cigarettes on Wednesday morning morning . These contrand goods were recovered from a cargo flight of Emirates Airlines landed in the port. The recovered cigar’s estimated cost is about Tk 35 lakh , sources said.
Asstt. Commissioner of Customs Intelligence Selim Reza told that acting on secret information, anti-smuggling campaign conducted in the cargo flight and managed to recover these contraband cigars.
Customs intelligence is trying to locate the actual consigner and consigne of the contraband cigarettes, sources said.
