Teleco reform policy to be reviewed

The government has established a high-level committee to review the draft of the Telecommunication Network and Licensing Regime Reform Policy 2025, according to a notification from the Cabinet Division issued on 20 July.
Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud will chair the committee, which also includes Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, and Special Assistant to the
Chief Adviser Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, who oversees the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
The committee’s mandate is to examine the policy’s background and assess its potential impacts across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons, including both anticipated and unforeseen consequences.
In addition, it will evaluate the draft policy’s financial, macroeconomic, technical, and legal implications, the notification stated.
To ensure a thorough review, the committee is authorised to co-opt additional members and invite experts, stakeholders, and relevant officials to participate in its meetings.
These sessions will be convened as necessary, with secretarial support provided by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
