Current nets worth Tk 2.5m seized

A huge amount of banned Chinaduaari and current nets worth Tk 2.5 million were seized in a drive in the Katagang, Naldanga Beel, Nabin and Charanbeen Beel areas of Handial Union, Chalanbil-dominated Handial Union, Jialgari Beel and Bhanga Bridge Beel of Chaikola Union in Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna.
Later, the seized nets were publicly burned and destroyed. The drive was conducted by Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Musa Naser Chowdhury from 3 pm to 7 pm last Friday (July 11). Chatmohar Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. A. Matin said that 550 pieces of Chinaduaari nets and 15,000 meters of current nets were seized in a drive under the Fisheries Protection and Conservation Act with the cooperation of the Upazila Fisheries Department. Later, the seized nets were burned and destroyed. The estimated value of the nets is 25 lakh taka. Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Abdul Matin, Social Service Officer Sohel Rana and Thana Police were present at the time. Upazila Executive Officer Musa Naser Chowdhury said that the campaign against illegal China Duari and current nets in the fisheries sector will continue.
