Ariful Haque declares candidacy for Sylhet-1

BNP Chairperson’s Advisor and former Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury has officially announced his candidacy to participate in the National Assembly elections for Sylhet-1 constituency. He started his campaign from the premises of Bandar Bazar Central Jame Mosque in Sylhet city after Friday (July 11) Friday prayers.

At that time, he told reporters, ‘The national election is ahead. I have sought prayers and support from the city people today. I especially want to see our acting chairman Tarique Rahman as a symbol of the expectations of the people of Sylhet division. If he becomes a candidate for this constituency, we will be very happy.’

He also said, ‘If he does not become a candidate, then I am preparing to enter the field with permission. The elders and devotees of this city have given me that permission. I have officially started my election activities from today.’

Highlighting the significance behind choosing the Bandarbazar Central Mosque as the venue for announcing his candidacy, Ariful Haque said, ‘This mosque is the center of religious people in Sylhet. Many religious leaders offer prayers here. Our respected leader, the late M Saifur Rahman, also offered prayers here the day before his death.’

He said, ‘We will all work together to develop Sylhet and strengthen the party’s position. I will play my role according to the party’s decision.
