Delaying polls will drag nation backward: Fakhrul

Sylhet Bureau :
“No government can be stronger than an elected government. That is why elections are important. Go to the people, convince them that the country has no alternative but BNP.” – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented.
He said that the more the election is delayed, the more the country will lag behind. This will stop investment, the security of women and children will be threatened, the justice system will collapse, and the law and order situation will deteriorate drastically. Therefore, what the country needs now is a government elected by the people.

He said, “Hasina did not just run away. Through the sacrifice, blood, and struggle of many people, we have become free from fascism. We have fought for democracy. We want a state where people are free to express their opinions, women can move safely, youth can get employment, people have access to medical care—we have started a new movement to build a welfare-oriented Bangladesh.”

He also said, “This movement is led by the patriot Tarique Rahman. Our beloved leader, patriot Begum Khaleda Zia, is still inspiring and advising us while she is ill. Now is not just a time for politics of words, now is the time for action. Through sacrifice and blood, we have brought an end to the fascist rule. In the last 15 years, this ruling group has killed nearly twenty thousand people. In the last July-August mass uprising alone, two thousand people were martyred in 36 days. It is our moral and political responsibility to stand by the families of the martyrs. We must ensure their rehabilitation, education for their children, and future security.”

He said, “A new, developed and prosperous Bangladesh must be built under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, where there will be equal opportunities for all. We want a participatory, meaningful election—an election through which the people’s government will be established.”

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a special commemoration and honoring ceremony organized by Sylhet District BNP at a hotel auditorium in the city at 3 pm on Monday (July 7) to honor the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising and their families.
