BRAC University hosts global meet on financial literacy

BRAC University organized the International Conference on Financial Literacy and Economic Wellbeing 2025 at its Merul Badda campus in Dhaka on Wednesday, focusing on the vital role of financial literacy in driving economic growth and individual empowerment.
The day-long event, hosted by BRAC Business School (BBS), brought together local and international scholars, policymakers, and industry leaders, who presented over 60 extended abstracts and full papers exploring various dimensions of financial literacy and economic wellbeing.
Professor Dr. Mohamad Fazli Bin Sabri, Dean of the Faculty of Human Ecology at Universiti Putra Malaysia, delivered the keynote address. In the plenary session, a high-profile panel featured Professor Mohammed Helal Uddin, Executive Vice Chairman of the Microcredit Regulatory Authority; Md Mushfiqur Rahman, Chairperson of the SME Foundation; and Arinjoy Dhar, Senior Director at BRAC Microfinance.
Nazma Mobarek, Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, attended as the chief guest, while Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Chairman of Sonali Bank PLC, was present as the guest of honor at a special session titled “Empowering Individuals and Organizations through Financial Literacy, Competency, Inclusion, and Digitalization.”
Opening remarks were delivered by Professor Mohammad Mujibul Haque, Dean of BBS, and the conference concluded with closing reflections from Professor Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University. Both emphasized the need for collaboration between academia, industry, and government to advance financial education and inclusion.
The event was supported by corporate partners including IDLC Finance PLC, Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), bKash, and the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
