Prof Yunus inaugurates 15th Social Business Day in Savar

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the 15th edition of Social Business Day on Friday morning as chief guest and keynote speaker at the Samajik Convention Centre in Zirabo, Savar. The opening was marked by a brief but vibrant cultural performance.

Organised by the Yunus Centre and Grameen Group, this year’s event is themed: “Social Business is the Most Effective Way to Ensure Healthcare for All.”

Distinguished speakers at the inaugural session included Dr. Ismail Serageldin, former Vice President of the World Bank (1992–2000), Md. Ashraful Hassan, Chairman of Grameen Group, and Zenaat Islam, Relations Manager at Yunus Centre.

The two-day global conference brings together more than 1,000 participants, including over 180 international delegates from 34 countries, to discuss innovative solutions to pressing global issues such as healthcare access, inequality, and sustainability.

The programme features five plenary sessions and eight breakout sessions highlighting diverse insights and strategies from across sectors.

Notable participants include Prof Md. Saidur Rahman, Health and Family Welfare Adviser to the Chief Adviser; Omar Ishrak, former CEO and Chairman of Medtronic and former Chairman of Intel Corporation; and Erik Solheim, former Executive Director of UN Environment and former Norwegian Minister of Environment and Climate.

Advisers from the interim government were also in attendance.

As part of the extended agenda, a special Academia Dialogue will be hosted in partnership with North South University on June 29, engaging academics and students in discussions on the role of social business in societal transformation.

Additionally, the Three Zero Club Convention will focus on achieving zero carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment globally.
